If the payment system is giving you trouble, there are a few
things to check before you contact Support.
Add a new way to pay
You can add it when you make a purchase or at Payment
options (https://login.live.com/). You may need to sign in with your Microsoft
account.
Money in your Microsoft account
Buy stuff with money in your account.
Use the money in your Microsoft account to buy stuff from
Microsoft Store.
Go through the regular purchase steps. When we ask how you
want to pay, select Microsoft account.
The money in your Microsoft account can't be used to shop at
Microsoft Store retail locations, or to get cash, gift certificates, or similar
payment products, except when required by law.
Add money to your Microsoft account.
You can add money to your Microsoft account to buy products
and services from Microsoft Store.
Go to the gift cards page in Microsoft Store and buy a
gift card in the amount you want to add to your account.
Enter your name and email address as the recipient, and
complete your purchase
Confirm that you've received an email with the gift code. Go
to the Redeem if you have more than one account with us; confirm
you're signed in to the right one.
Enter the code and select Redeem. The entire amount on
the code will be added to your Microsoft account.
Redeem a gift card or code on your Microsoft account.
The easiest way to redeem a gift card or code is by
visiting (microsoft.com/redeem). Enter the 25-character code, select Next,
and then follow the instructions on the screen.
If the card or code has money on it, we'll apply the entire
balance to your Microsoft account. You can use it to buy things from Microsoft
Store online, on Windows 10, and on Xbox One.
If the card or code is for a specific app or game, we'll add
it to your personal library, where you can download and install it. Go
to My Library in Microsoft Store. When some apps or games are redeemed,
they will take you to the product page where you can also download and install.
For Windows 10
Open Microsoft Store.
Select the See more menu(next to the Search
box).
Select Redeem a code. Sign in to your Microsoft account
if needed.
Enter your code and select Redeem.
Xbox One
Make sure your console is connected to the Internet and
you’re signed in to your Microsoft account.
Say "Xbox, use a code".
Follow the instructions on the screen to redeem your gift
card code.

Choose Store> Use a code.
Follow the instructions on the screen to redeem your gift
card code.
Xbox 360
Make sure your console is connected to the Internet and
you’re signed in to your Microsoft account.
Press the Guide button on the controller.
Choose Games and apps> Redeem code.
Enter the gift card code and select done.
Troubleshooting
The following are common reasons you might be unable to
redeem a card or code.
The code was already redeemed
If you go to com/redeem, enter the code, and then see
the message This code has already been redeemed,you can't redeem the code
again.
Ifyou have more than one Microsoft account, you might have
redeemed it in the other one. Try signing in with your other Microsoft account
and try redeeming again.
You have a pending balance on a subscription
You can't redeem a code to your account if you have a
pending balance due on a subscription.
The code is for a pre-paid subscription
To redeem a code for a pre-paid subscription, you must have a credit card in your Microsoft account as a backup payment option.
The code came from another online store
If the code was purchased from another company, such
as Amazon.com, Best Buy, or EA, contact them directly to redeem the code.
Other limitations
Gift cards can be redeemed to personal Microsoft accounts,
not business or corporate accounts. If you don't have a personal
account, visit the Microsoft account page to sign up.
Gift cards can't be used to shop at Microsoft Store retail
locations.
A gift card can only be redeemed in the currency printed on
the card, or described on the web site. Example: a gift card in U.S.
dollars can’t be used to buy an app priced in Euros.
The gift card or code may have additional instructions, and
may be subject to additional terms and conditions.
